It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Ronald Lucken of Bemidji, MN, who passed away on June 14, 2026, at the age of 85.
Ron was born in Blackduck, MN, to Edward and Rachel Lucken. He attended high school in Laporte and graduated from Bemidji State University. He dedicated his career to serving Beltrami County as a compassionate social worker, advocating for abused children and at risk youth.
In addition to his professional service, Ron and his wife, Karen, owned and operated Balsam Beach Resort on Lake Plantagenet. In retirement, Ron and Karen shared a passion for antiques, owning Old Stuff Antiques in Walker, MN. They spent many winters traveling across the southern United States in search of antiques while enjoying walks on the beach and fresh seafood.
Ron's many interests included hunting, fishing, kayaking, golfing, biking, photography, mushroom foraging, and antiquing. Ron was an avid Minnesota sports fan, who always remained loyal to the Vikings especially when they played the Packers. Above all, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren at their home on Evergreen Lake.
Ron will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his wife and family, his advocacy for at-risk youth, and his deep love of nature. He possessed a rare ability to know when to listen and when to offer wise advice. His quiet strength brought calm and comfort to those around him during difficult times.
Ron is lovingly remembered by Karen, his wife of 63 years; his children, Terri (Scott) Nelson and Mark (Cheryl) Lucken; four grandchildren, Austin, Addie, Erik and Annika; and three precious great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at a future date. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
For those who wish to honor Ron's memory, the family invites you to make a donation to the National Ataxia Foundation.
