Roy, age 71, is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary; son, Jeremy (Kristi), and grandson Dagen; daughter, Jacqueline (Rob), and grandsons Evan and Elliott. He is also survived by his sister, Ramona (Roger); his brother, Ron (Colleen); and many nieces and nephews.
He was born September 6, 1954 in Milaca, MN to Sherby R and Cora L Woods, who have preceded him in death.
Roy began his career in the culinary field, starting at a local diner, the Sportsman's Cafe in Milaca. After he earned his Associate Degree as a chef from the St. Paul Technical Vocational Institute, he worked at the Kaiserhoff in New Ulm, MN. He continued his culinary career as the Banquet Chef at the Twins Motor Inn in St. Paul, MN.
In January 1975, Roy met the love of his life, Mary Horwath, at a local music venue. They were married on November 22, 1975, following the first week of deer hunting; and began their life together in Little Canada before later moving to St. Paul.
Roy eventually transitioned careers into elevator construction, where he continued his strong work ethics and dedication.
Jeremy was born in St. Paul, MN after which the family relocated to Wyoming, Minnesota. Jacqueline was also born in St. Paul, MN. Over the years, their home was filled with beloved pets, including dogs, cats, a hamster, and a bird. He was very supportive of his kids in their sports, from coaching Jeremy and his hockey team for 5 years, to attending Jackie's swimming meets. He also ENJOYED listening to them learn their musical instruments and sometimes even playing the accordion with them. Of course then going to their concerts. Roy also enjoyed teaching them how to be accomplished cooks and has been proud to watch them cook and eat their fare.
Roy had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He loved deer hunting, fishing in both summer and winter, camping, and traveling to various state parks. Above all, his love for family brought him his greatest joy.
After retiring due to health challenges, Roy developed a passion for participating in 1800s rendezvous events, where he enjoyed both attending and actively participating in the events.
Roy found peace when he passed away on June 5, 2026 in Hugo, MN, after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis, as well as complications from diabetes, liver cancer, and heart issues.
Roy will be remembered for his strength, resilience, and unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts and souls of those who knew and loved him.
