Saima Marie Savela (Saari)

Born April 8, 1922 in Toivola, Minnesota to Finnish immigrants Heikki and Gustaava Saari. Youngest and last survivor of eight children. Died February 17, 2024 at the age of 101.

Preceded in death by beloved husband, Earl H. Savela; and grandson, S. Adam Welsh.  

Survived by daughters, Thea (Stephen) Welsh and Karen (Michael) Trudeau; son, Craig (Sherrie) Savela; and stepson, Dennis (Marilyn) Savela.  Grandchildren, Anja Welsh, Lauren (Dwight) Line, Colin (Becky) Trudeau and Erik Trudeau.  Great-grandchildren, Cadence and Julian Kuehne-Welsh; Evan, Rylan and Coen Line; Brody Trudeau.  Also survived by many dearly loved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.

Saima was a long time resident of Marine on St. Croix.  She was an accomplished soprano soloist, seamstress, and china painter.  She loved ballroom dancing with Earl, reading, crossword puzzles, camping, traveling, volunteering at church and using her iPad to stay in touch with family and friends.

Services will be held at a later date.
