Scott Allan Mathern
Born 08/26/1967 left this earth 10/09/2026
Scott was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota and passed away in St Paul, MN. He had a wicked sense of humor and was charming, handsome and had a big generous heart. When you saw the twinkle in his eye you knew he was up to some mischief. He could always make us laugh and his smile was contagious.
He loved to cook and was a superb chef. He worked in several restaurants in the Twin Cities and Florida. He cooked up many wonderful dishes and we all enjoyed eating them. He could always critique a dish and make it better. He was a huge fan of the Minnesota Vikings, proudly wearing his purple and gold jerseys and jacket. On Sundays he watched the game and texted with his mom and brother about the plays. He knew more sports statistics and trivia than any of us. He also loved fishing and would always enjoy hanging out by a lake when he could.
Scott struggled throughout his life with depression, always seeing the goodness in others but never himself. He was active in recovery and had many friends there. He tried hard to rise above the dark clouds but in the end the angels came for him. Our hearts are broken but we believe he has finally found the peace he could never find on this earth. Fly high, run through the grass and cook up another great dish. We will forever miss you and hold you in our hearts. Good bye beautiful dark-eyed son.
Scott is survived by his mother Rita Trulock, step father Sheldon Monsrud, sister Gina McCuen and brother Chad Mathern as well as his 2 nephews Ariel and Rory
A Memorial service will be held at a later date.
Matters
Anxiety says everything matters, Depression says nothing matters,
ADHD can't decide what matters, PTSD believes what mattered most still does,
Grief reminds you what once mattered still aches,
Bipolar swings between everything and nothing mattering,
Dissociation numbs you to caring if anything matters,
Loneliness makes you wonder if you matter,
Childhood trauma steals the chance to know what matters,
Self harm convinces you pain is what matters,
And suicide whispers it never mattered at all.
