Sean Patrick Ryan

Sean Patrick Ryan, 36, of Lake Elmo, passed away December 5, 2023, surrounded by family, after bravely battling brain cancer.

Sean will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He was born February 10, 1987, in Winona, Minnesota. Sean graduated from Cotter High School in 2005 and attended Winona State University where he graduated with a degree in Finance and Accounting. While at WSU, he met the love of his life, Halley, and they married September 15, 2012. They would later welcome their two beautiful children, Sloane (5) and Blake (2).

Sean spent all the free time he could spare playing golf. The game was the source of his competitive passion, his social center, and his favorite hobby. Many of Sean’s core memories, and some of his closest friends, were made playing countless rounds – particularly at WBYC and The Bridges (WCC). Other personal interests included watching movies, playing poker, and following sports - especially his beloved Michigan Wolverines, Minnesota Timberwolves and Vikings.

Above all else, Sean was a devoted husband and a proud, loving father. He was always willing to dress up, play dolls, drive trucks, and throw a ball over and over again. He looked forward to helping Sloane and Blake pursue their passions in life, and hopefully, enjoying many rounds of golf as a family.

Sean had the best sense of humor. He made others smile and laugh, often without intent. He carried this same clever wit throughout his cancer treatments, right up until his passing. It kept his family, friends, and caregivers smiling and laughing through even the hardest of times. But what impressed us all even more was how fiercely strong Sean was in the face of terminal illness. He never wallowed, never asked for pity, and never stopped trying to find a way to stay here with his family.

As we mourn Sean’s passing, we will vividly remember the laughter he brought, the problems he solved (and caused), and the warmth and familiarity we felt in his presence. We want his memory to be a source of comfort and inspiration for those he loved and who loved him in return.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fritz Hoffman and Tim & Zada Ryan. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Halley and children, Sloane & Blake. Parents, Tom & Sue Ryan; brother, Scott (Johanna) Ryan; and grandmother, Theresa Hoffman. Halley’s family - parents, Bill (Michele) Haider; Diane (Keven) Bodick; brothers, Sam & Jack Bodick; stepsisters, Leasha Jimenez  & Lindsey Lyford; as well as many other family and cherished friends.

A celebration of Sean’s life will be Sunday, December 17, 2023 from 2:00-5:00 P.M. with a time of sharing at 4:00 P.M. at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard, Stillwater.
