Sherman Danielson

November 2, 1948 — December 23, 2025

Born on November 2, 1948, in Hutchinson, MN, to Eldon and Lois Mae Danielson, Sherman grew up in the Dassel area. He attended the Collinwood one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Dassel High School in 1966. His passion for education led him to earn a BA from Augsburg College, a Master of Education from the University of Minnesota, and an Education Specialist Degree from the University of St. Thomas.

Sherman dedicated his professional life to Stillwater Area Public Schools. Over his distinguished career, he served as a Physical Education teacher, Assistant Principal at Oakland and Stillwater Junior High schools, and Stillwater Area High School, and ultimately as the Activities Director of Stillwater Area High School. His coaching career included football, track, and basketball at the youth, junior high and high school levels. As a coach, teacher, activities director, and administrator, he attended thousands of performances and competitions throughout his career. This was one of Sherm's attributes, the gift of showing up for people. His contributions were widely recognized; he was honored as the Gazette Person of the Year in 2000 and Section 4AA Athletic Director of the Year in 2004.

In retirement, he remained active in the sporting community: co-managing Section 4AA Track and Field meets and continuing his role as a coach at Stillwater Area High School. Sherman continued to attend the games of former athletes, family members and many of the high school sports.

On June 29, 1968, Sherman married the love of his life, Yvonne Dahlman, at Stockholm Lutheran Church in Cokato. As members of Trinity Lutheran Church, they built a life centered on faith and family. His greatest joy in later years was his ten grandchildren. Whether he was cheering them on at their various events or simply spending time together, they were his greatest source of pride. Known for his loyalty, strength, and unwavering support, Sherman was a constant presence in the lives of those he loved.

An avid sports fan and outdoorsman, Sherman enjoyed biking, golfing, and traveling to all 50 states. He was a constant fixture in the stands at Twins games, Gopher football games, and high school sporting events across the state.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Yvonne; his children, Daren (Amie) of St. Augusta, Chelon (Clint) Morrill of Woodbury, Nathan (Michele) of Sartell, and Aaron (Karol) of Hudson, WI.; He is survived by his sister Cheryl (Phil) Ragis of Eagan and brother Brian (Jody) Danielson of Dassel, brothers and sisters- in law Marie (Dennis) Persinger of Kenosha, WI and Dwight (Jane) Dahlman of Dassel, and several nieces and nephews.
