Sheryl Lockwood

d. January 10, 2016

Sheryl Lee Lockwood died on January 10th surrounded by her dear friends and family. Sheryl was born in St. Paul, MN on September 22, 1950, to Alberta (Nord) and Arthur Lockwood. As the child of a career military father, she moved often and attended many schools from Maryland to Hawaii. The family settled in St. Paul and Sheryl graduated from Washington High School and Hamline University. She later received a Master's degree in applied behavioral sciences from City University, Bellevue, WA. After working for Ramsey County Social Services for more than 10 years, she worked for the Minnesota Department of Human Services, retiring in 2012 after 22 years.

In her spare time, she continued to work to improve people's lives by being involved in politics. She loved Paul Wellstone and helped Michael Paymar with his legislative campaign.

Sheryl relaxed in her garden where she helped flowers grow. Sheryl helped a lot of things grow! She also loved to travel with friends, visiting Alaska, Aruba, Nova Scotia, New Mexico - and Duluth, which was perhaps her favorite destination of all outside of St. Paul.

Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Alberta and Arthur Lockwood. She is survived by her husband, Gary Ash; sister, Loretta (James) Watschke and nephews Matt, Mike, Greg, Josh, and Nate and their children; sisters Judy Parker and Alaina Pocock of Florida, and their children; stepchildren Christopher, Heather and Megan and their children; and many, many friends.

Smart, bold, and insightful, she was a woman of deep convictions. Her honesty, caring nature, and generosity of spirit garnered her numerous friends whose lives were made better for knowing her. In death, there is no doubt, she has made new friends. That is what she did. That is who she was. We have lost our beautiful Sheryl, but keep our beautiful Sheryl, but keep our magnificent memories.

There will be a service in the spring.
