Shirley Ann Sager (nee Behrendt)
Passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12th after a valiant fight with Alzheimer's Disease, lung cancer, and breast cancer.
She is preceded in death by her best friend and loving husband, Tim Sager; infant son; father Carl Behrendt; mother Veronica Hanke; step-father Hubert Hanke; sister Gloria "Tots" Struntz; nephews Chris Tonia and Steven (Bert) Sager; nieces Jamie and Sheila Sager; Brothers-in-law Harry Struntz, Donald, Russell, Michael, and James Sager; and sisters in law Marianne and Maryann Sager.
She is survived by her children Tim (Lisa), Terry (Karen), and Jean (Chris) Stevenson; grandchildren Tim (Mikayla), Kate (Tyler) Pilat, Molly (JT) Tauer, Nicholas Sager, Chris Kaufman, and Amanda (Isaac) Oliver; great grandchildren Eve, Leopold, Vivian, Mason, Jackson, and Ella; sister Joyce "Punk" (George) Tonia; brother-in-law Tom(Mary) Sager, and many other relatives and friends.
Shirley was born and raised in St. Paul and attended school in the Rice Street Area. She was a very proud "Rice Streeter". She married Tim Sager in 1957 and raised her family in the North End Community. Shirley worked for Ramsey County for 34 years and retired in 1995. She filled her life with family and friends, spending time at her cabin on Bone Lake in Wisconsin, cooking, and baking delicious foods and baked goods, and volunteering at both St. Bernard's church in St. Paul and St. Genevieve's Church in Centerville and many other organizations.. She was kind and generous with her time and helped many neighbors and friends with whatever they needed. She was strong in her Catholic faith which she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
Mom, you will be missed dearly every day of our lives and your love will live on forever in our hearts
Our family is beyond thankful for the incredible care Mom received the last two months from nurse Laura from Our Lady of Peace Hospice as well as her primary physician of over 20 years Dr. Suzanne Davidowitz. You made her time here on Earth much easier and we thank you!
A funeral service will be held at St Bernard's Church, 187 Geranium Ave W, Saint Paul, on Monday, February 19th at 11 a.m. with a visitation an hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Alzheimer's Association or Our Lady of Peace Hospice.
