Stanley J. Meyer, of White Bear Lake, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, at the age of 87. The son of a Presbyterian minister, Stanley grew up in several rural towns in Iowa and Minnesota, and graduated from Underwood High School. After graduating from Macalester College where he met his wife, Susanne (Bakke), Stanley went on to have a long career teaching Spanish at North High School in North St. Paul. Even after retiring, he never missed a chance to converse in Spanish with anyone he encountered who also spoke the language.
Throughout his life, Stanley embraced his love of music by singing in barbershop choruses, singing in his church’s choir, and attending innumerable concerts, whether professional orchestras or community bands. Stanley was also a lover of nature and enjoyed camping, first in tents and later in a camper trailer. He also had a passion for bicycling, having completed several Minnesota Ironman rides as well as a number of rides up to a camp near Mille Lacs Lake and to the family cabin in Burnette County, Wisconsin. His interests in rock collecting and lapidary led to many travels with his family to gather geological treasures. He was also an avid sailor, having skippered sailboats on White Bear Lake and around the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior. His love of travel brought him to Europe, South America, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as many areas of the United States and Canada.
Stanley is preceded in death by his parents, John and Delia Meyer; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and George Bauman; and beloved dogs, Shadow (a Black Lab-Retriever), Barry (a St. Bernard) and Clancy (a Wheaton Terrier). He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Susanne; son, Charles (Leslie) Meyer; daughter Christine (Kevin) Schneider; and grandsons, Andrew Schneider and Garrison Meyer.
