Steven Odell Novak, age 76, passed away on July 2, 2026. He leaves behind a lifetime of hard work, service, and love for his family.

Born on August 29, 1949, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Steven spent most of his life in Minnesota. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1967. Steven went on to spend many years in Paso Robles, California before returning home.

A proud patriot, Steven honorably served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970, carrying the values of duty, discipline and dedication that guided him throughout his life.

After his service, he built a long and respected career in the skilled trades through his work at CTS and Specialty Silicone Fabricators in California. Over the years, he became a machinist, tool and die maker, and ultimately a mold maker, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him for his precision and work ethic. He retired in Minnesota in June 2014.

Steven loved the outdoors. A lifelong hunter and fisherman, he was happiest on the water, in the field, or at the range. He was a Life Member of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited and the USGA. He was an avid golfer who cherished time on the course. Steve loved fishing on the St. Croix River and enjoyed every year he spent in Deer Camp with his good friend Jon. Family and friends will remember his generosity in sharing his knowledge, stories, and enthusiasm for the hobbies he loved.

Steven was married to Judy Reibel from 1969 to 1975 and to Alta Latessa from 1976 to 1980.

Steven was blessed to have his daughter, Marcia, by his side throughout his final years. Her constant support and care brought him comfort, strength, and companionship, and he deeply cherished the love she gave so freely.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Marcia Winterlin, and her husband, Bryan; his granddaughters Gabrielle and Marissa; his sister Kay Eileen Miele (Mark); his brother Nickolas Michael Novak (Maureen); and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nickolas and Helen (Marlow) Novak, and his sisters, Cynthia Lynn Wagner (Michael) (2012), and Lisa Ann Whitworth (Patrick) (2006).

Steven will be remembered for his integrity, quiet strength, craftsmanship, and devotion to family, country, and the outdoor life he cherished. Whether he was crafting precision tools, teaching someone about reloading, casting a line into a quiet lake, or enjoying time with family, he approached life with patience, determination, and humility. His memory will live on in all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service and interment will be held at 12:45pm Tuesday, July 21 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Assembly #2. A celebration of life will be held following the funeral at the American Legion Post 111 in Somerset, Wisconsin.
