Mrs. Susan (Sue) Carol Johnson, age 79, of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully in Centerville, MN, surrounded by family.
Sue is survived by her three daughters and their families: Jill Wyant (Pat) of North Oaks, Jennifer Johnson of Lino Lakes, and Kathryn Thacker (Nick) of Blaine. She was a devoted grandmother to Bailey, Tegan, Jacob, Henry, and Hazel. She is also survived by her sister, Faith Herman of Gold Canyon, Arizona, and her dearest friend of a lifetime, Mary Lou Will of Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Richard (Rick) Johnson; her parents, Orin and Doris Thompson; her sister, Ann Foesch; and her brother, Mark Thompson.
Sue was born in Cut Bank, Montana, and grew up riding horses with her childhood friend, Sandy-a passion that reflected her adventurous and free spirit. Her family later moved to Minneapolis, where she attended St. Louis Park High School. There, she joined the Parkettes dance team and met Rick, the love of her life and husband of 25 years.
She earned her degree in Elementary Education from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. Sue had a successful career in the investment management industry, obtaining her Series 7 license in the late 1990s. Her greatest passion was her role in client services at Allodium Investment Consultants, where she worked until her retirement. Sue cherished both her colleagues and clients.
Sue's greatest joy came from being a mother and grandmother. Known lovingly as "Gagy Sue," she embraced every opportunity to be with her children and grandchildren-whether babysitting, making art projects, reading stories, biking, playing games, or spending relaxing days at the lake. Her presence brought warmth, laughter, and comfort to all who knew her.
She was the kind of person who made even the smallest moments feel special. A conversation with Sue over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine was never just small talk-it was a connection, a comfort, and often a dose of her gentle wisdom and boundless empathy. She had a unique gift for seeing the good in every situation and every person, and her radiant smile could light up the darkest room.
Creative and vibrant, Sue found joy in the details. She made exquisite handmade cards for every occasion and was famous for her potato salad and festive candy cane cookies. Her love of travel took her across the United States and Europe, often in the company of her daughters and their families, building memories that will be treasured for generations.
One of the great constants in Sue's life was her friendship with Mary Lou Will-a bond that spanned decades and epitomized loyalty, laughter, and unconditional love. Together with Mary Lou and her husband, Paige, Sue found a second family and a lifelong refuge of companionship.
Sue lived a life full of faith and heart-loving deeply, giving freely, and making those around her feel loved and cherished. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the love she gave, and the family she held so close.
