Manthey, Thomas John
Age 90, of Oak Park Heights, MN passed away on 11/1/15. Tom lived a full life focused on family and community service. An Eagle Scout, he graduated from Eveleth High School in 1943, served in the 94th Army infantry in Europe, graduated from Carleton College in 1949 and from Michigan Law School in 1952. He married his beloved wife Virginia Peel in 1951, began private law practice in Virginia, MN and later worked for Pickands Mather in Duluth, MN and Cleveland, OH, with a special interest in environmental law.
Tom resided in Hudson, OH for 43 years, where he was an active member of the Congregational Church and volunteered at the Haven of Rest homeless shelter for many years before returning to MN in 2011. Tom's passion was spending time with family and friends in Door County, WI and the BWCA. He is survived by his loving wife, Ginny, daughter Karen (John Jacobs) of Minneapolis MN, son Jim (Ann), of Stillwater MN, granddaughters Gina and Katy (Andy), grandsons Greg and Kevin, and great granddaughters Summer and Harmony.
A memorial service will be held on Sat. November 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Boutwell's Landing in Oak Park Heights, MN. Memorials preferred to Haven of Rest Ministries (330)535-1563 or the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater (651)439-4380.
