Vernon Zorn Moline

Born March 31st, 1929, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Louis B and Amy M Moline. They lived on the edge of Powderhorn Park in South Minneapolis where Vern and his three siblings (Olivia, Carl and Ken) enjoyed a rich family life in the midst of The Great Depression. Vern and his brothers loved fishing with their Sweden-born father and family roadtrips to Erickson, Manitoba, to visit his mother's Canadian family outside of Riding Mountain National Park.

Vern was Baptized in 1929 and Confirmed in 1943 at St. Paul's Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Vern and the love of his life, Beverly J Hage, were married in that same church September 11th 1954-thus began a 71-year-long journey together.

Their first home was in South Minneapolis where Jennifer, James and John were born. They moved to their newly constructed home in Brooklyn Center in 1959-where they would add Joel and Jeana to their growing family. They joined Brookdale Covenant Church during this time and have remained members there for over 60 years. With all the children off on their own life adventures, Vern and Bev moved to Lake Elmo, Minnesota, in 1999 where they lived for 25 years.

At a young age, Vern began work in South Minneapolis at a local meat market/grocery story and then Mamie Peterson's floral shop-delivering goods by foot, bicycle and automobile. After serving in the army during the Korean War, Vern returned home to begin a 37-year career with the Carnation Company using his interpersonal skills to build relationships with local grocers and lifelong friendships with many salesmen who traded damaged, discarded goods to keep their home pantries full on tight budgets. It was a business he enjoyed throughout his lifetime and reveled in speaking with random folks whenever in a grocery store.

During retirement, Vern and Beverly saw the world. It would be difficult to name a region of the world they did not explore. Together, they cherished learning about history, people, food and the architecture of each new place they visited. And they always made new friends along the way.

As life moved forward, Vern found great joy in watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather to them all. Vern was well known for playing a fierce game of checkers, dominos and, being left-handed, delivered a wicked pingpong serve up until only a month or two ago.

Vern cherished his wife and he adored his family. He loved his garden and he loved his church. He enjoyed golf in his retirement and could still play 18 holes at age 95.

He also had a heart for giving back to his community and served well over 1000 hours as a volunteer at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater.

Vern lived a long and good life, blessed with a wonderful spouse and family. When asked how he had lived so long and so well, he always gave the same answer: God has blessed me with a loving wife, a beautiful family and good health. I thank Him every day.

Vernon Zorn Moline passed away on July 25, 2025, at 4:00 pm holding the hand of his beloved wife surrounded by four of his children. Vern's parents and brothers and sister passed before him. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; children: Jennifer (Scott), James (Elizabeth), John (Chrystel), Joel (Rachel) and Jeana (Tom); grandchildren: Betsy, Michael, Anna-Mira, Asha-Léna, Chloé-Alex, Easton-Andrew, Jasper, Levi and Sydney, as well as nine great-grandchildren.
