Audrey Wittig

April 29, 1930 — June 12, 2021

Osceola, Wisconsin

Audrey Mae Wittig (Hansen) was born April 29, 1930 in Osceola, Wisconsin to Nis and Mabel Hansen. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osceola.  During her early years Audrey’s father worked for the railroad moving the family several times between depots in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and finally settling into their house in Osceola.  On March 11, 1951 she married Miles Wittig, also at Trinity, and then settled into their home on the Wittig family farm near Somerset.  There they were blessed with and raised three children. They were married for 69 years.

Audrey had graduated from a cosmetology school in St. Paul, MN, and worked many years as a hairdresser.  She and Miles eventually constructed a building in New Richmond in which to house her own beauty salon called House of Hair Designers, which she operated for many years. Audrey and Miles were longtime members of Salem Lutheran Church in Stillwater, MN, where Audrey enjoyed participating in various activities.  She belonged to the Dorcas group (later to be named the Women’s Guild), sang in the choir, played in the handbell choir, and was a leader for the Lutheran Girl Pioneers. In her retirement she enjoyed donating her time to giving manicures to the residents of The Deerfield in New Richmond. More recently  Audrey and Miles had moved off the farm and into Red Cedar Canyon Assisted Living in Hudson, WI.   Above all, Audrey loved spending time with her family.

On June 12, 2021 Audrey passed away after a short stay in the hospital.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Miles; as well as by her son-in-law, Chopper (Duane) Geske; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Hansen.  She is survived by her children, David (Mandy) of River Falls, Susan Wittig-Geske of Stillwater, Brad (Pam) of Somerset; grandchildren, Nicole (Matt) Freeman, Alex (Rachel Chavey) Wittig, Ken (Katie) Wittig, Neal (Allie) Geske, Eric Wittig, Ashley (David) Gilleland, Anna (Matt) Lange; and by great-grandchildren,  Asher Wittig-Chavey, Elias Wittig-Chavey, Elliot Gilleland, Miles Geske, Leo Freeman, and Jameson Wittig.  She also leaves behind her brother, Robert Hansen, as well as nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends.

Audrey's funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 11:00 AM at SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH, 14940 62nd St N, Stillwater, with Pastor Jon Brohn officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Following a luncheon, interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in East Farmington, WI.
