Christopher Joel Sutton, a joyful light to all who knew him, passed away from this life on the early afternoon of October 27, 2021. He is dearly loved and profoundly missed.
Chris was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 14, 1966, as the youngest child of the late Maureen and Gerald O. Sutton. He moved to Minneapolis in 2003, where he shared a home and built a life with Sree Nair, his close friend since 1992.
Those who knew Chris fondly remember his loving heart, his kind generosity and his big, rich laugh that was as contagious as it was delightful. As a prolific artist, avid gardener and fastidious homemaker, Chris filled every space he could with so much color, life and beauty. His radiant sparkle endured even unto his last moments in this life and continues to be cherished by his loved ones.
Chris reveled in creativity and worked skillfully with a wide variety of media. Committed to lowering his carbon footprint, Chris preferred to create his art with humble and recycled materials, transforming used or discarded items into strikingly elegant statements that are a treasure to behold. His talent as a maker was matched only by his buoyant humor, quick wit, and charming smile. To know him was such a blessing.
From his very youngest years, Chris loved to garden and cultivated a deep sensitivity for the plant and animal life around him. He was a committed environmentalist and made friends with all sorts of creatures, from neighborhood cats to songbirds and swallowtails. He appreciated the beauty of different lifeforms and designed his garden to celebrate them.
Chris’s body was returned to the world via green cremation on November 7, 2021, only a week before his birthday. He is survived by his dear friend Sree, who was with Chris up until he passed on. Words can never express how much Chris is loved and deeply he is missed.
