Helen R. Clark

Beloved Wife, Mother, and Grandmother

Age 85, resident of Boutwell's Landing, passed away peacefully October 19th, 2020 after succumbing to heart failure.  She was born on February 9, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York to George and Ragnhild Will.  She married George Cameron Clark on October 3, 1957.  She was a retired pediatric nurse.

She is survived by sons, Cameron (Laura), Glenn (Sandy), and David (Jonelle); grandchildren, Jameson, Miles, Mackenzie and Ian; other relatives and friends.

Helen was born and raised in Brooklyn New York, where she graduated from Bay Ridge high school in 1953 and then Mandl School for Medical Assistants secondary school.  She went on to become a nurse.  Helen was active in the Rainbow Girls, a Masonic order for girls.  She met George at one of their dances.  It was in Brooklyn where they were married and had her three sons, Cameron, Glenn, and David.

After moving from New York in 1970, the family spent a brief time in Chicago.  She then resided in Arden Hills, Minnesota and Oak Park Heights at Boutwells Landing.   Helen worked for many years as a pediatric nurse for Doctors Richard Lien and Sandra Sackett at their private practice in Roseville before retiring.  Helen and George enjoyed spending the winters in Peoria, Arizona where they lived in the Oakbrook community at Westbrook Villages.  Being very active with their friends, they created and ran the social committee where they organized weekly poolside potlucks and monthly activities.  They also loved hosting their grandkids and family for visits.

When she was not working or raising her sons, Helen & George loved to travel.  Helen was blessed to be able to experience many countries and amazing sights around the world with relatives(Don/Jean; Alex/Jean; Nora/John; Christina/Harry).  She rode camels at the pyramids in Egypt, walked through Greek ruins, and experienced our family history in Scotland and Scandinavia to name just a few.  She also provided the opportunity for her sons and grandchildren to travel with her on many memorable family cruises and land excursions over the years, including Hawaii, Alaska, Disney World, Caribbean, and Europe.  She loved taking photos of her travels and loved ones to preserve the memories.

Helen was a very creative person.  She was an avid crafter, photographer, gardener, cook, and card player.  She loved to get together with others to make home-made holiday and personal cards, as well as scrapbooks, for her family and friends.   Flowers, landscapes, birds, and family vacations were often the subjects of her photographs.  She adored flowers of all kinds.  Helen liked spending time in gardens and never hesitated to stop and "smell the roses".  She always knew the names of any variety of flower you asked her about.  She was a great cook and everything was made with love.  She especially liked sharing her childhood favorites such as Swedish meatballs, Danish sweet treats like Krumkake, and was known for her wild rice soup.  She was always excited to play cards, Hand and Foot, with family and her Boutwell's friends at their weekly game or an occasional match of dominoes.  In addition, she enjoyed reading a good mystery novel.

Helen's legacy lives on in our family and will always be carried in our hearts and memories.
