d. February 23, 2021

Oak Park Heights, Minnesota

Henry Lawrence Stewart, III

“Terry” died February 23, 2021, at home from Alzheimer’s and pancreatic cancer.

He is survived by his wife Virginia Kampp (“Mimi”), their three sons John Hubert, Peter David and Michael Edward, six grandchildren, brothers Walter Hempelmann and James Duncan, as well as numerous friends and relatives.

Born (January 10, 1937) and raised in Chicago, Terry was an Eagle Scout, graduated from New Trier High School and Purdue University. At Purdue he was a member and president of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

In 1961, he married Mimi and joined CNA. Following 36 years in various administrative assignments within the insurance company, he retired to Amelia Island, Florida, to pursue blacksmithing, an avocational skill he developed as a volunteer at Naper Settlement in Naperville, Illinois. In Florida, again as a volunteer, he became resident smith in Fort Clinch State Park’s Civil War fort. A later move to Hopkins, Minnesota, transferred these skills to set building in the scene shop of Stages Theatre. In both arenas, he derived the greatest pleasure working with the children.

Throughout retirement the Stewarts traveled the world and settled five years ago in Boutwells Landing.

The family will hold private services at a later date. They are enormously appreciative of the services of HealthPartners Hospice and the incredibly caring team from Morning Glory Home Care who made Terry’s final chapter a peaceful one.
